There has been a recent innovation in reducing plastic pollution through the use of microbe engineering.
Plastic pollution has been building up in our waterways, landfills, and oceans in the form of PET (polyethylene terephthalate). Now, scientists at the US Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) have discovered an enzyme that eats this plastic, and they have improved upon it making it even more effective.
Hopefully, this is the beginning of the end for plastic pollution.
